Reconstructive surgery or plastic surgery, is derived from the Greek word “Plastikos” which means to shape, improve or restore. Reconstructive surgery will repair the function and the appearance of a particular body part. There are three main reasons why reconstructive surgery may be appropriate: medical reasons, due to a birth defect or deformities that may inhibit activities of daily living, traumatic injuries and accidents.
